Report from the Dorset Echo 1997
I had some surreal conversations with the Charity Commission over closing the Fund. They were insistent that the money be distributed between 'worthy' widows of the Parish in one form or another. As it was originally set up for educational purposes but had been used otherwise for the Tolpuddle martyrs families I couldn't agree with their ideas. There were a few worthy widows but I doubted that they would appreciate what I could purchase with the small amount of money available. Eventually we got the tree though I probably spent more on phone calls to Taunton at my expense (pre-email days) than there was in the account.  DS
