organised by Maiden Newton Allotments Association and Pennard Plants
Maiden Newton 5th Potato Day
Maiden Newton Village Hall
Saturday 24th February 2018
10.30 to 2.00pm
It's been 5 years since we first started Maiden Newton Potato days. Each year there are increased visitors and this year Pennards are providing a record number of potato varieties.
This year we have 97 varieties of potatoes, the oldest dating back to 1851 including Vitelotte Noire, a rare French heritage seed potato which has purple flesh and a flavour of chestnuts. A real gourmet treat. Over 700 varieties of heritage and heirloom seeds, plus exclusive introductions from Burpee in the USA. There’s a new blight resistant tomato called Oh Happy Day, which has a great flavour, plus tasty cucumber Merlin which produces 6 inch fruits in a greenhouse in just 2 months. I'll have further information nearer the time on the wide varieties of fruit, onion sets, rhubarb, unusual tubers, asparagus crowns etc.
As always everyone is welcome, experienced gardeners, allotment veterans, newbies, come and talk to the experts, plenty of advice available. Share tips and talk all things gardening.
